Boer Wars
British-Afrikaner colonial struggles
The Boer Wars were two conflicts in South Africa between British forces and Dutch-descended settlers called Boers.
The first (1880–1881) was a brief Boer victory.
The second (1899–1902) was far bloodier, with Britain ultimately prevailing but at great cost—concentration camps for Boer civilians became an international scandal.
The wars preceded the formation of the Union of South Africa.
