peaceful coexistence
Living without conflict
Peaceful coexistence is living alongside others—whether individuals, groups, or nations—without conflict, despite differences.
The term gained prominence during the Cold War as a diplomatic framework: rival powers could avoid war while maintaining incompatible systems.
More broadly, it describes any arrangement where potential adversaries tolerate each other: The neighbors achieved a kind of peaceful coexistence after years of disputes.
