Black Forest cake is a chocolate layer cake featuring whipped cream, cherries, and often kirsch (cherry brandy).
The dessert takes its name from the Black Forest region of southwestern Germany, where the combination of chocolate, cream, and cherries became iconic.
Traditional versions layer chocolate sponge cake with whipped cream and sour cherries, topped with chocolate shavings and whole cherries.
