Tart pie fruit
A morello is a variety of sour cherry with dark red, almost black skin and juice.
Morellos are too tart to eat fresh but prized for cooking, baking, and making preserves or liqueurs: morello cherry pie, cherry brandy made from morellos.
The trees are smaller and hardier than sweet cherry varieties.
