Australian football

Oval ball, goalposts

Australian football is a contact sport played on an oval field, primarily in Australia.

Two teams of eighteen players score by kicking an oval ball through goalposts.

The game permits running with the ball, handballing, and tackling, but not throwing.

Often called Aussie rules or footy, it developed in Melbourne in the 1850s and remains Australia's most popular spectator sport.
