1812

Cannon-fire classical piece

1812 most often refers to the War of 1812, a conflict between the United States and Britain fought from 1812 to 1815.

The war produced enduring cultural touchstones: the burning of Washington, the Battle of New Orleans, and "The Star-Spangled Banner." Tchaikovsky's *1812 Overture* commemorates a different conflict—Napoleon's invasion of Russia that same year.
