wickiups

Domed brush dwellings

Wickiups are dome-shaped dwellings made by Native American peoples of the Southwest, constructed from a frame of poles covered with brush, grass, or bark.

The term comes from Algonquian languages and typically describes temporary shelters used by nomadic groups: The Apache built wickiups that could be assembled quickly.

Similar to but distinct from tipis, which use hide coverings.
