whoopie pie
Maine's state treat
A whoopie pie is a dessert consisting of two round, cake-like cookies sandwiching a sweet cream filling.
Despite the name, it's not a pie—it resembles a large, soft sandwich cookie.
The treat is associated with Pennsylvania Dutch country and Maine, where both regions claim to have invented it.
She packed whoopie pies for the bake sale.
