whooping
Crying out loudly
Whooping describes the making of loud, excited cries—shouts of joy, triumph, or enthusiasm: whooping with delight, whooping and hollering.
Whooping cough is a contagious respiratory infection named for the distinctive gasping sound between coughs.
To give someone a whooping (also spelled whipping or whupping) is to beat them soundly, whether literally or in competition.
