fig newton
Pastry-wrapped dried fruit
A Fig Newton is a soft cookie with a fig paste filling, rectangular with rounded edges.
The name comes from the Newton, Massachusetts factory where Nabisco first produced them.
Though trademarked, the term is often used generically for any fig-filled cookie of this style: I grabbed a fig newton from the box.
