weight-shift

Body mass redistribution

Weight-shift is a technique for controlling aircraft—especially hang gliders, ultralight planes, and paragliders—by moving the pilot's body to change the center of gravity rather than using mechanical controls.

The pilot leans left to turn left, shifts forward to descend.

Weight-shift aircraft are popular for recreational flying.

The term also applies to similar balance-based steering in motorcycles and bicycles.
