waterskins
Leather water carriers
Waterskins are containers for carrying water, made from animal hide or bladder sewn into a pouch.
Before canteens and plastic bottles, travelers and soldiers relied on waterskins for portable hydration: The hikers filled their waterskins at the stream.
The word now appears mostly in historical fiction and fantasy settings.
