Watermelons is the plural of watermelon, the large fruit with green rind, red flesh, and black seeds—a summer staple at picnics and barbecues.
We bought three watermelons for the Fourth of July party.
The word also appears in the crude expression carrying watermelons, a nervous excuse for being somewhere you don't belong, from the film *Dirty Dancing*.
