vocalizations

Sounds from throats

Vocalizations are sounds produced by the voice.

The term appears most often in scientific contexts describing animal sounds: Researchers recorded whale vocalizations off the coast.

It also describes pre-linguistic sounds made by human infants, or any utterance that isn't quite speech: The patient's vocalizations suggested distress.
