verbing

Turning nouns active

Verbing is the practice of using a word as a verb when it traditionally belongs to another part of speech.

Nouns get verbed constantly in English: to Google something, to medal at the Olympics, to adult responsibly.

The term is self-illustrating—verb has been verbed.

Language purists often object to verbing, but the process has given English much of its flexibility.
