two-ply

Doubled tissue type

Two-ply describes material made of two layers bonded or woven together.

Most often applied to toilet paper and tissues, where additional plies mean greater thickness and softness: We only buy two-ply.

Also describes yarn made from two strands twisted together, or wood products with two laminated layers.

The pattern extends to other numbers: single-ply, three-ply, four-ply.
