Single-ply describes material consisting of one layer rather than multiple bonded layers.
The term appears most often with toilet paper and tissues, where single-ply is thinner and cheaper than double-ply: The office bathroom only stocks single-ply.
In roofing, single-ply membranes are flexible sheets applied in one layer over flat roofs.
