tumblers

Flat-bottomed drinking vessels

Tumblers are drinking glasses with flat bottoms and no stem or handle—the ordinary glasses most people reach for daily.

The name comes from early versions with rounded bottoms that would tumble over if set down, encouraging drinkers to finish their contents.

In locks, tumblers are the internal pins or levers that must align correctly for a key to work.

Tumblers also names acrobats who perform flips and rolls, tumbling through the air.
