deadbolts
Sliding metal bars
Deadbolts is the plural of deadbolt, a lock mechanism that extends a solid metal bolt into the door frame.
Unlike spring locks, deadbolts require deliberate turning of a key or knob and cannot be pushed back—they must be rotated to retract.
The landlord installed new deadbolts after the break-in.
The name reflects that the bolt is "dead"—unmovable without the key.
