triangulators

Those measuring by angles

Triangulators are people who determine position or distance by measuring angles from known points—the method used in surveying and navigation.

The term extends to those who calculate positions more abstractly: political triangulators position themselves between opposing factions to appeal to both, often seen as opportunistic rather than principled.

Clinton was accused of being a triangulator, shifting positions to capture the center.
