triangulator

Locates using angles

A triangulator is someone who triangulates—determining position by measuring angles from known points, or more figuratively, someone who positions themselves strategically between competing parties or viewpoints.

In politics, a triangulator adopts positions from opposing sides to appear centrist or above partisan conflict: Clinton was accused of being a triangulator who abandoned liberal principles.

The term often carries a note of criticism, suggesting calculation over conviction.
