trap play
Lineman lets through
A trap play is a football running play where an offensive lineman deliberately allows a defender to penetrate the line, then another blocker hits that defender from the side, "trapping" him out of the play's path.
The strategy turns the defender's aggression against him: The fullback gained eight yards on a trap play up the middle.
Sometimes shortened to trap.
