sacrifice bunt
Deliberate productive out
A sacrifice bunt is a baseball play where the batter intentionally bunts the ball to advance a baserunner while expecting to be thrown out at first base.
The batter "sacrifices" his at-bat for the team's benefit: With a runner on second, the manager called for a sacrifice bunt to move him to third.
