divestiture
Selling off holdings
Divestiture is the act of selling off or disposing of assets, subsidiaries, or investments.
Companies undertake divestiture to raise capital, satisfy regulators, or shed unprofitable divisions: The antitrust settlement required divestiture of the acquired company.
The term appears most often in corporate and legal contexts.
The simpler form is divestment, which also covers withdrawing investments for ethical reasons.
