tinfoil

Shiny kitchen sheet

Tinfoil is thin, pliable metallic sheeting, originally made of tin but now almost always aluminum.

It's used to wrap food for storage or cooking and to line baking pans.

The term persists despite the material change, much like we still "dial" phones.

In conspiracy culture, a tinfoil hat supposedly blocks mind-control signals, making "tinfoil hat" shorthand for paranoid or outlandish beliefs: That's some real tinfoil-hat thinking.
