Mind-control blocker
A tinfoil hat is headgear fashioned from aluminum foil, supposedly to block mind control signals, surveillance, or other external influences on one's thoughts.
The term is used almost entirely in mockery to characterize someone as paranoid or given to conspiracy theories: He's a tinfoil hat type who thinks the government is tracking him through his microwave.
The adjective tinfoil-hat similarly dismisses ideas as absurdly conspiratorial.
