golf tee
Tiny wooden stand
A golf tee is a small peg, typically wooden or plastic, pushed into the ground to elevate a golf ball for the first stroke of each hole.
The tee gives the ball a clean lie and allows a full swing without striking the turf.
By extension, the teeing area itself—where play begins on each hole—is also called the tee: We'll meet you at the first tee.
