demerger
Company splits apart
A demerger is the splitting of a company into separate entities, the opposite of a merger.
A large corporation might demerge a division that no longer fits its core business, allowing it to operate independently: The demerger created two publicly traded companies from one.
The term is more common in British than American English, where spin-off often serves the same purpose.
