pyorrhea

Pus from gums

Pyorrhea is a severe gum disease marked by inflammation, pus discharge, and loosening of teeth.

The term is somewhat dated in clinical use, where periodontitis is now preferred, but pyorrhea persists in general speech: The dentist warned that neglecting his gums could lead to pyorrhea.

Also spelled pyorrhoea.
