hymenoptera

A misspelling or informal rendering of Hymenoptera, the order of insects that includes bees, wasps, ants, and sawflies.

The term derives from Greek words meaning "membrane wing," describing the thin, veined wings characteristic of these insects.

In scientific writing, the name is always capitalized. (Capitalized Hymenoptera is the standard form.)
