study hall
Supervised quiet time
Study hall is a period during the school day set aside for students to work independently—doing homework, reading, or catching up on assignments.
It typically takes place in a classroom or library with minimal instruction: I finished my essay during study hall.
The term can also refer to the room itself where such periods occur.
