herding dog
Livestock control canine
A herding dog is a breed developed to manage livestock—moving sheep, cattle, or other animals by circling, chasing, or nipping at heels.
Border collies, Australian shepherds, and corgis are herding breeds.
The instinct runs deep; herding dogs often try to herd children, other pets, or anything that moves: Our collie keeps trying to herd the cats.
