stereoscopes
Twin-image viewing devices
Stereoscopes are optical devices that present slightly different images to each eye, creating the illusion of three-dimensional depth.
Popular in the Victorian era as parlor entertainment, they held paired photographs taken from slightly offset angles.
The View-Master toy is a modern descendant.
The technology underlies contemporary virtual reality headsets.
