stereoscopic vision
Two-eyed depth sensing
Stereoscopic vision is the ability to perceive depth by combining slightly different images from each eye.
The brain fuses these two perspectives into a single three-dimensional picture, allowing judgment of distance and spatial relationships.
This is why closing one eye makes it harder to catch a ball or thread a needle.
Stereoscopic technology mimics this effect by presenting offset images to each eye: The 3D movie required stereoscopic glasses.
