state troopers
Regional law enforcement
State troopers are police officers who work for a state-level law enforcement agency, typically patrolling highways and rural areas outside municipal jurisdiction.
The term is primarily American: State troopers pulled over the speeding vehicle.
Some states call them highway patrol officers instead.
State troopers often handle traffic enforcement, accidents, and emergencies on interstate highways.
