starvation mode
Body conserves energy
Starvation mode is a supposed metabolic state where the body, deprived of sufficient calories, drastically slows its metabolism and clings to fat stores, making weight loss difficult or impossible.
The concept is popular in diet culture but oversimplified—while metabolic adaptation to reduced intake is real, the dramatic "mode" is largely myth: I'm not losing weight because my body's in starvation mode.
