star-drive

Spacecraft warp engine

A star-drive is a propulsion system capable of interstellar travel—moving spacecraft between star systems.

The term belongs to science fiction, where various imagined technologies (warp drives, hyperdrives, jump drives) serve this function: The ship's star-drive engaged, and the stars blurred into streaks.

Real physics offers no such mechanism yet.
