drawbore

Joinery pin misalignment

A drawbore is a hole drilled slightly offset through a mortise-and-tenon joint so that when a wooden peg is driven through, it pulls the tenon tighter into the mortise.

This traditional joinery technique creates a mechanically locked joint without glue or clamps.

To drawbore is to make or use such a joint: The timberframe was drawbored with oak pegs.
