saddling
Preparing to ride
Saddling is putting a saddle on a horse or other animal, preparing it to be ridden.
The figurative sense dominates modern usage: to saddle someone with something is to burden them with an unwanted responsibility or obligation: They saddled me with all the paperwork, saddled with debt.
The image is of loading weight onto someone's back.
