wooden soldier
Painted marching figurine
A wooden soldier is a toy figure of a soldier carved or shaped from wood, traditionally painted in bright military uniforms.
These were popular children's toys before plastic dominated, and remain associated with Christmas decorations and nostalgia.
The Nutcracker ballet features wooden soldiers prominently.
Figuratively, someone who moves stiffly or stands rigidly at attention might be compared to a wooden soldier.
