spackling paste
Hole-filling compound
Spackling paste is a putty-like compound used to fill small holes, cracks, and imperfections in walls and ceilings before painting.
It dries hard and can be sanded smooth.
The term is often shortened to spackle, which also works as a verb: I need to spackle that nail hole before we move out.
