space stations
Crewed orbital platforms
A space station is a large artificial structure in orbit around Earth (or potentially other bodies) designed for extended human habitation and research.
Unlike spacecraft built for travel, space stations remain in place, serving as platforms for scientific experiments, astronomical observation, and testing how humans adapt to life in space.
The International Space Station has been continuously occupied since 2000.
