space-invaders

Descending pixelated attackers

Space Invaders is a 1978 arcade video game where players shoot descending rows of alien attackers—one of the earliest and most influential games of its era.

The name has become shorthand for the blocky pixelated alien design iconic to early video games: Those space-invaders graphics look so retro now.

Space invaders without the hyphen simply means aliens attacking from space.
