snowmachines

Winter motorized sleds

Snowmachines are motorized vehicles designed for travel over snow, typically with skis in front and a continuous track at the rear.

The term is standard in Alaska and parts of Canada; elsewhere, snowmobile is more common.

Snowmachine also refers to equipment that produces artificial snow for ski slopes or film sets: The resort's snowmachines ran all night.
