jerry-can

Portable gas holder

A jerry-can is a flat-sided metal container for fuel or water, typically holding about five gallons.

The design originated in Germany before World War II—Allied forces adopted both the container and a name derived from "Jerry," wartime slang for Germans.

The distinctive shape with recessed handles allows secure stacking and easy pouring.

Also spelled jerrycan or jerry can.
