ecodefense

Nature protection activism

Ecodefense is direct action to protect natural environments from development or exploitation—tree-spiking, equipment sabotage, blockades.

The term gained currency from the 1985 manual *Ecodefense: A Field Guide to Monkeywrenching*.

Practitioners view conventional activism as inadequate against imminent environmental destruction.

Critics call it ecoterrorism; supporters call it necessary resistance.
