homeplate

Runner's final base

Home plate is the five-sided rubber slab at one corner of a baseball diamond where batters stand and runners must touch to score.

It anchors the geometry of the field—foul lines extend from its edges, and the distance to the pitcher's mound is measured from it.

He slid into home plate just ahead of the tag.

Usually two words: home plate.
