silhouette art
Cut profile pictures
Silhouette art is the craft of creating images from solid shapes, typically cut from black paper and mounted on a light background.
The technique captures subjects in profile without interior detail—just the outline filled in.
Popular in the 18th and 19th centuries for inexpensive portraits before photography, it persists as a decorative and folk art form: She makes silhouette art of children's profiles at county fairs.
