video installation
Gallery screen piece
A video installation is a work of art that incorporates video displays as part of a physical environment.
Unlike a film screened in a theater, a video installation shapes the viewer's spatial experience—monitors may be scattered throughout a room, projections may cover walls or floors, and viewers often move through the piece rather than sitting before it.
The term emerged in the 1960s and 70s as artists began treating video as sculptural material: The museum's video installation filled three rooms with synchronized projections.
