kirigami
Scissored paper art
Kirigami is the Japanese art of cutting paper to create decorative designs, related to origami but incorporating scissors or a knife rather than folding alone.
The technique produces intricate patterns, pop-up structures, and three-dimensional forms: The architect drew inspiration from kirigami for the building's latticed facade.
The word combines Japanese *kiri* (cut) and *kami* (paper).
